Siesta Key
Legend has it that the beach’s sand has healing qualities due to a unique concentration of energy derived from quartz crystals.
Siesta Key beach has received countless accolades, one of the most significant being voted the #1 beach in the U.S., by Dr. Beach. Dr. Beach is a Professor of Coastal Research who evaluates beaches on 50 distinct criteria, including the natural beauty of the setting, the temperature and clarity of the water, the health of the ecosystem, and the amenities.
Siesta Key beach is also home to the famous Sunday drum circle, where locals and visitors gather around sunset every Sunday to take in the tropical rhythms of sound and dance. Yoga is also offered on the beach four mornings a week. One of our favorite monthly activities is the full moon class which begins at sunset and ends with the full moon rising and reflected across the sand and water.
On the north end of the key is Siesta Village, which exudes a relaxed tropical vibe with a collection of eclectic shops, open air restaurants, and plenty of bars and live music. Throughout the year the village also hosts numerous holiday events and festivals.
Turtle Beach, on the south side of Siesta Key, is named for being an active sea turtle nesting habitat. There tend to be far fewer people at this beach, and even though you are on the same island, the sand is a completely different, darker and coarser. Turtle beach offers a gorgeous and pristine landscape for those who want to be a bit more removed from the main areas of the island.
